Partnership With TraPac Inc. to Provide RFID-Driven Information on the Location, Status and Security of Ocean Cargo Containers
Savi Networks, a provider of RFID-enhanced information services for global container shipments, and the Trans Pacific Container Service Corp. (TraPac) announced an agreement to extend SaviTrak real-time, supply-chain information services to client shipping lines using TraPac's port facilities in Los Angeles, Oakland and Jacksonville, Fla. The partnership brings TraPac terminals into Savi Networks' growing global community of ocean cargo terminal operators leveraging SaviTrak's managed information services.
TraPac provides stevedoring services as the U.S. terminal operating subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), one of the world's largest multi-modal shipping companies. TraPac-operated terminals in the United States handle one million container shipments (TEU's) annually.
Savi Networks leverages RFID and other standards-based Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technologies at global ports to further improve the efficiency, effectiveness and security of global supply chains.
This announcement follows a similar agreement recently publicized to extend SaviTrak to terminals operated by Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC), which also operates terminals across the U.S. West coast and at major ports in the U.S. South Atlantic region.
"Shippers and carriers calling on TraPac port facilities now will be connected to a growing worldwide network that provides real-time information services on the location, status and security of their containerized cargo," said Lani Fritts, Chief Operating Officer of Savi Networks. "With SaviTrak's RFID-based information services, TraPac will continue to provide its customers with the most advanced technology solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their shipments."
SaviTrak information is provided in real-time when cargo containers affixed with standards-based AIDC devices pass by reader systems that capture and process data along the network. Savi Networks and TraPac emphasized the importance of expanding SaviTrak information services via an open technology platform that accommodates multiple and interoperable AIDC technologies, such as barcodes, passive RFID technologies such as EPC, active RFID and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) used to track ships and trucks that transport ocean containers.
