Aruba Networks, the Mobile Edge Company, announced the Aruba 200 Mobility Controller and Aruba Mobility Management System to address the specific wireless, mobility, and security needs of branch office and retail store environments. These products are designed for deployments comprising a number of modestly-sized, dispersed WLANs securely interconnected and managed from a central operations center. The Aruba 200 provides integrated mobility, security and convergence services for both wired and wireless users, and the Aruba Mobility Management System offers system-wide visibility of not only wireless network infrastructure and devices, but individual users as well.

Aruba's new mobile edge products address key challenges in branch office deployments. Increasingly, branch offices require network services beyond basic IP routing and firewalls, including wireless, intrusion prevention, site-to-site VPNs, identity-based management and voice. The result is a rising number of boxes, provisioning challenges, and management troubles. The Aruba 200 simplifies branch deployments with integrated services and automatic configuration, while the Mobility Management System provides a centralized management view of a confederation of branch offices.

In addition to branch offices, the Aruba 200 and Mobility Management System are ideally suited for use in retail store deployments where wireless capabilities and specialized applications can significantly improve revenues, profitability, and customer satisfaction. These applications include mobile point-of-sale with secure credit card transactions, inventory management in warehouses and retail spaces, information kiosks, pricing and auditing, guest Internet access, Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN), streaming video, and RFID asset tracking.

"One of the primary difficulties in deploying WLAN technology in branch offices and retail stores is the lack of onsite IT expertise to manage the network," stated Joel Conover, principal analyst for enterprise infrastructure at Current Analysis. "In order to be successful, branch and retail WLAN solutions must deliver several capabilities; strong centralized management, wide-ranging integrated functionality for security and voice, a highly reliable implementation, and competitive pricing for cost-effective deployment to a large number of sites. Aruba's new additions to the Mobile Edge portfolio meet all of these needs."

The Aruba 200 Mobility Controller and Mobility Management System represent an extension to Aruba's Mobile Edge architecture, which delivers seamless user mobility across the LAN, WAN, and Internet; unified security for wired, wireless, and remote access; high quality voice support; and investment protection for the existing infrastructure. Aruba's Mobile Edge architecture enables secure enterprise WLANs to scale to levels previously infeasible.

Integrated Mobility, Security, and Convergence for Branch Office and Retail Locations

The Aruba 200 Mobility Controller delivers integrated mobility, security and convergence services for both wired and wireless users in branch offices, retail stores, and small business environments.

With two ports supporting up to six APs and 100 simultaneous users, the Aruba 200 is built on the same advanced architecture as Aruba's other award- winning mobility controllers, with a built-in policy enforcement firewall and support for the full suite of ArubaOS mobility software. Consequently, the Aruba 200 can serve as a single integrated appliance for identity-based security, role-based access control, endpoint integrity enforcement, and safe guest-user access.
