AIM Global, the worldwide trade association and authority on automatic identification and mobility technologies, announced today that Total Terminals International (TTI) will host an interactive field tour on Feb. 24th of Automatic Identification and Data Technology (AIDC)-based and planned RFID solutions at TTI's Pier T terminal at the Port of Long Beach, one of nation's largest and busiest port facilities. TTI is a joint venture between Hanjin Shipping and Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC), a leading terminal operating company that handles more than 25 percent of the cargo shipments on the U.S. West Coast.

The bus tour is the culmination of the RFID Interactive experience, an RFID-specific event being held in conjunction with the 2006 AIM Annual Showcase (www.aimglobal.org), located at the nearby Newport Beach Hyatt Regency, Feb. 21-24. Following a morning presentation, attendees will visit the 385-acre Pier T Terminal where they will see first-hand how today's most advanced wireless technologies enhance operations and security at a mega-terminal.

This field tour brings to life and augments case studies on the business value of AIDC solutions presented at RFID Interactive earlier in the week by companies such as Boeing, Hewlett-Packard, McCarran Airport, Michelin, NYK Logistics, Mitsui USA, West Pharmaceutical, SRA International, Nancy Foods, and Hampton Products.

"The terminal tour concludes a week of real-world case studies," said Dan Mullen, president of AIM Global. "Since 90 percent of world trade is conducted over the ocean via container shipments, it's especially critical to see and understand how AIDC technologies can help improve commerce. We're grateful that TTI will open their gates to us so that people wanting to learn the business value of these technologies, which were implemented by Embarcadero Systems Corporation, can see how they work in a far-reaching, dynamic commercial environment."

"As the system integrator of these and other hardware and software technologies, ESC is pleased to demonstrate how this showcase terminal applies the latest wireless technologies to concurrently improve both security and efficient operations," said Keith Dierkx, Senior Vice President at Embarcadero Systems Corporation.

Attendees cleared through pre-registration will experience how security at the state-of-the-art facility is strengthened through multiple wireless technologies that include smart cards and cameras, automated identification and intrusion detection equipment, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) cards, and corresponding software, and GPS satellite location systems manage terminal assets. In addition, RFID solutions planned for implementation will be addressed.

The field tour is sponsored by Savi Technology, a member of AIM Global and leading provider of RFID-based supply chain management and security solutions, including at the Port of Long Beach.

With more than 30 years in the data capture industry, AIM provides its members with advocacy and education, and a tour of the Port of Long Beach fits into that strategy by illustrating some key and innovative deployments of the technologies.

Current sponsors for the Showcase and RFID Interactive include Zebra, ScanSource, Psion Teklogix, Markem Corporation, PSC, TAGSYS, Printronix, Hand Held Products, Datamax.
