Intermec Inc. launched two ambitious RFID purchase programs designed to help companies worldwide obtain the superior business benefits of Gen 2 RFID equipment and technology, while maximizing previous investments in earlier-generation RFID. The programs are designed to aid both companies that purchased RFID equipment and tags to meet early compliance deadlines, and companies now considering initial RFID implementations. Global standards set in 2005 have spurred development of Gen 2 products that offer the benefits and capabilities customers most request. Intermec's programs allow companies to take advantage of the Gen 2 RFID systems now reaching the market.

Through Aug. 30, 2006, customers who trade in their Gen 1 RFID readers and printers will receive a per-unit rebate of up to $650 when they purchase a comparable quantity of Intermec RFID Gen 2 readers and printers and a three-year Medallion service contract. Eligible Intermec Gen 2 equipment includes the PM4i printer, IF4 or IF5 fixed reader, IV7 vehicle reader and IP4 handheld reader. Additionally, companies trading in Gen 1 tags will receive 20 cents per tag toward the purchase of Intermec Gen 2 RFID tags up to a maximum of 5,000 tags. Program participants also receive one day of site analysis and one day of installation services, valued at more than $6,400.

In addition, companies implementing Gen 2 RFID are invited to participate in an Intermec tag purchase program. Companies that purchase 50,000 or more Intermec RFID Gen 2 labels and a one-year Medallion service contract on a Gen 2 PM4i printer or Gen 2 IF5 reader will receive the printer or reader free. There is no quantity limit. Companies may, for example, purchase 100,000 labels to receive two printers or readers free. Both programs are also offered through Intermec's authorized RFID partners.

Intermec provides companies everything they need to implement Gen 2 RFID: a full line of quality, state-of-the-art hardware and tags with highly desired features; free Gen 2 installation and integration services from a company with 20 years of successful RFID installation experience; a single point of contact for Gen 2 hardware and service; and Intermec's commitment to exceptional customer service.

"Retail suppliers and other providers subject to RFID compliance mandates have been eagerly awaiting availability of Gen 2 products, due to their significantly higher value proposition relative to Gen 1 technology," said Chantal Polsonetti, vice president, Manufacturing Advisory Services, for ARC Advisory Group. "Gen 2 performance vastly exceeds that of Gen 1 in areas such as tag performance, read rates, and the ability to operate multiple readers in a dense operating environment, but Gen 2's global capabilities offer some of the most attractive benefits, since suppliers can use one technology across numerous geographies."

The programs are currently available in North America. For information on how to participate, visit www.intermec.com.
