Cards Asia 2008 surpasses expectations

Terrapinn Pte Ltd, organizer of Cards Asia exhibition and conferences is pleased to declare the 13th annual Cards Asia 2008 event a success. Ended on 11 April 2008, the event surpassed expectations and boasted more than 5,600 attendees at the three-day event held at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Held in conjunction with the 5th annual RFID World Asia and Retail Solutions World Asia in its 2nd year, Cards Asia 2008 also launched 2 new synergistic end user conferences - ID Management Asia and eCommerce World Asia, making Cards Asia Asia's largest smart cards, payments, ID trade event.

This year, Cards Asia hosted more than 250 world class exhibitors and welcomed attendees from over 45 countries. Exhibition space exceeded more than 10,000 square meters, a 30% increase from 2007.

"Attendees enjoyed aisles of the latest and most exciting innovations, solutions and services for smart cards, RFID, payments and ID applications," said Richard Ireland, CEO Asia Pacific of Terrapinn Pte Ltd. "The 3-day event was packed with learning and networking opportunities. Businesses were discussed, deals signed, with friends and competitors alike meeting at this annual industry gathering."

James Tye (Director of Technology) from Singapore Prison Services and a speaker at ID Management Asia summit agreed. "It was definitely worth our time to be at this event. We met the right people offering the solutions we were interested, all under one roof and even walked away with new ideas".

Iris Goh, Manager at Cortina Watch - a leading retailer and distributor of luxury timepieces in Asia, shared the same sentiments. "The retail seminars were interesting and provided good solutions and ideas to retailers. Very helpful for us in reviewing existing practices and makes us think on how to develop a competitive edge over our competitors".

This year's event also witnessed an increase qualified buyers and the number of business deals being closed. The exhibition included industry suppliers from more than 30 countries and was deemed a success by the exhibitors.

One such exhibitor was WorldLabel, who closed their first deal within the 2nd hour of the show and is expecting to close more deals worth up to one million USD in sales. Ashley John Vaz, Director of Corporate Development at WorldLabel said "We couldn't ask for more. It has exceeded our expectations and we will surely be back next year!"

Leading security solutions provider HID believes Cards Asia to be the premier industry event in the region, attracting an increasing number professionals and qualified partners every year. Ren? van Ryt, Director Market Strategy of HID Global thinks "Cards Asia is the place to be. HID will definitely continue to invest in Card Asia 2009 as we have done in the past."

Jochen Scheil, Sales Director of Koera Packmat had this to share "the show was great, we are very happy with the quality of the visitors and we foresee many discussions we had, turning into future orders for sure".

Alex Mak, Sales & Marketing Manager from NXP Semiconductors summed up the event, "We have exhibited since 10 years ago and it is still the best marketing program for us to network with players from the Cards & RFID industry. This is the best show in Asia!"

Cards Asia 2009 (along with RFID World Asia & Retail Solutions World Asia 2009 expo) will be held from 22 - 24 April 2009 at Suntec Singapore Level 4.

Smart card technology continues to be increasingly pervasive and is being adopted for a quick growing number of important private as well as public sector applications in Asia. Spurred on by key innovative developments such as contactless, NFC, and security solutions in ID & access, the acceptance and usage of smart cards will dramatically increase over the next few years in the Asia Pacific region.
