Metalcraft, Inc. announced that president Steve Doerfler has been elected to the Board of Directors for AIM North America - a chapter of the AIM Global international trade association representing automatic identification providers.

Doerfler joined the seven-member Board of Directors on Jan. 1, 2009 for a three year term. Metalcraft has been a member of AIM since 2001.

"Metalcraft needs to do our part to support AIM," said Doerfler. "This is the only organization focused on industry standards, education, and outreach for automatic identification."

Doerfler was nominated after his recent work on AIM's UID Supplier Alliance (USA) Committee, which works to promote the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Unique Identification (UID) policy compliance.

"Metacraft delivers a lot of value in our UID, RFID and barcode products," said Doerfler. "Metalcraft knows the benefits these technologies bring to organizations, and we want to strengthen AIM's ability to educate on the value of automatic ID."

Doerfler joined Metalcraft in 1990 as sales manager, became a minority owner in 1993 and was promoted to vice president of sales and marketing in 1998. In 2006, Doerfler and CEO Doug Peterson led a buyout of majority owner Waldo Smeby. Doerfler became President with responsibilities for sales, marketing, and engineering.

Doerfler has a degree in Industrial Administration from Iowa State University. He serves on the boards of the Mason City Economic Development Corporation and the North Central Iowa Growth Partnership.
