Saudi Post, the leading provider of mail and parcel delivery services in Saudi Arabia, has awarded Intermec Technologies a contract to equip its postal delivery team with CN3 mobile computers and add-on IP30 handheld RFID readers. The contract is a core component of the strategic partnership between the two organizations, and reflects Saudi Post's commitment to implement the most advanced technology available to improve delivery efficiency and provide enhanced services for its customers. This contract is the latest in a series of major postal wins for Intermec.

Saudi Post's complete solution for mail delivery (Postal Delivery System - PDS), which integrates many of its systems including its CRM and Sorting Machines, has been implemented to make the dispatch process for postal workers more efficient. The solution also incorporates Navigation and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) applications.

As a leader in the class of small, advanced, rugged mobile computers, the CN3, with up to four integrated radios including GPS, will enable Saudi Post to stay connected with its postal workers through voice and high-speed data in real time, no matter where the workers are located. The integrated GPS system provides postal workers with hands-free, turn-by-turn voice navigation, making driving safer and more efficient. The versatility of the CN3/IP30 solution provides RFID read-write capability in a single device.

"As soon as a postal worker makes a delivery, they can use their Intermec CN3 to synchronize and update our database. There is no longer the need to wait for them to return at the end of the day," said Eng. Majed BinAnzzan, E-Business Director at Saudi Post. "Additionally, the new solution will significantly increase customer satisfaction as it enables us to immediately show our customers that a letter or package has been delivered as the confirmation of delivery is detailed on the Saudi Post website."

The previous Saudi Post solution required the use of three separate devices - a handheld device with an RFID reader, Automatic Vehicle Location hardware for tracking vehicles and an in-vehicle personal computer to display the navigation application. By integrating all three components into one device, the Intermec solution not only facilitates the maintenance process for Saudi Post but also provides considerable cost savings, and enables workers to focus more on the job at hand instead of managing multiple devices. In addition, the rugged design of the CN3 allows for unexpected drops to occur without the solution breaking or any data being lost.

Saudi Post is planning to extend its Intermec CN3/IP30 solution to more client services in the future, including potentially empowering workers to process customer payments.

"Intermec continues to increase its footprint with major postal organizations," said Patrick J. Byrne, Intermec President & CEO. "We are delighted to have been selected by Saudi Post to help them increase customer satisfaction, transform their operations and reduce costs in a challenging economic environment."
