Omni-ID and XIO Strategies recently teamed up to provide an integrated supply chain management and asset tracking visibility solution to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), as well as other government agencies.

XIO has been coordinating the testing of Omni-ID's RFID tags as part of a potential passive RFID implementation with the U.S. Navy. The Navy, and other U.S. DoD entities, require a passive UHF RFID tag with long range, global readability that can survive in harsh environments.

The Omni-ID and XIO partnership will provide an integrated solution with a supply chain management focus, and will offer improved visibility and efficiency for tracking high-value assets worldwide. Together, the two companies will enable a new range of applications in the DoD and across government agencies that were previously impeded by harsh environments, the presence of metal and liquid and the lack of global readability.

Omni-ID has established itself as a value innovation leader for bringing the benefits of RFID applications to commercial services markets. The Company also recently announced a suite of new products specifically designed for the manufacturing, transportation, and defense industries. The Omni-ID Ultra, Omni-ID Max HD and Omni-ID Max Pro RFID tags are individually engineered to meet a range of market and customer needs, including those of global functionality across all geographic regions; near-perfect performance on, off, or near metals and liquids; and record read distances in on-metal-only environments.

In addition, Omni-ID and XIO are sponsoring an RFID Journal virtual event called "RFID in Defense" on December 15th, which will highlight the U.S. Department of Defense's multi-year initiative to transform its supply chain by employing RFID technologies.

"Omni-ID has established a successful track record of opening up new applications in industries where passive RFID was previously impossible," said Tom Pavela, President and CEO, Omni-ID. "That is precisely what we have done for the DoD and other government agencies. Working closely with XIO, we will continue to find new ways to innovate and unlock supply chain management solutions that combine reliable read rates, the ability to function in harsh environments and global functionality."

"The DoD and other government agencies have a unique set of requirements that create challenging environments for any RFID solution to function," said Mary Ann Wagner, President and CEO of XIO Strategies. "We evaluated a number of tags for this purpose but only Omni-ID stood up to the stiff challenges posed to an RFID tag in the harsher environments. Our DoD and government agency customers will benefit from the complete supply chain management and asset visibility solutions we can provide."
