Winners of the ID People Awards 2010 announced

The winners of this year's ID People Awards - the Oscars of the Auto ID industry - were revealed on November 16th during the ninth ID WORLD International Congress, held in Milan. At the annual ceremony hosted by Sophie B. de la Giroday, President of Wise Media, awards were presented in recognition of the contribution made by thought leaders, innovators and pioneering adopters who distinguished themselves by their achievements during the past year.

The Big Five

Five awards were handed out following nomination and voting by the members of the ID Community, who have supported the initiative with enthusiasm during the last few months. The categories and winners are:

? ID Community Award: Prof Ken Sakamura, from the Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory, Tokyo, Japan. For his drive in opening Japanese technology to the world in ubiquitous networking and computing through the uID. He hailed as the 'father' of the concept of 'Internet of Things'. This year's ID Community Award was presented by Brigadier Ahmed Saleem Moeen, CEO of SecureTech Consultancy and winner of the ID People Outstanding Achievement Award in 2005.

? ID Leadership Award: Celio Ribeiro, Executive President, ABRID, Brazil, for showing a true leadership role in the Brazilian Association of Digital Identification Technology, in coordinating the efforts of private and public organizations that resulted in the implementation of a national identification program for Brazil. This year's ID Leadership award was presented by Paul McKeown Head of IBM's Customs Ports and Border Management in Northern Europe and last year's winner of the ID Community Award.

? ID Limelight Award: Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India, for being the force behind a transformational ID project in India and to roll out what is the world's most ambitious identity program to identify India's 1.2 billion people. The award was presented by Scott Silverman, CEO of Positive ID and winner of the ID Limelight Award, in 2004.

? ID Trail Blazer Award: Siim Kallas, Vice-President of Transport Research and innovation, European Commission, for his vision in the European Commission in the smart sustainable transport "Europe 2020" strategy, aimed at smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. This year's ID Trail Blazer Award was presented by Tariq Malik, Deputy Chairman of the National Database Registration Authority, Pakistan (NADRA) and winner of the 2009 ID Outstanding Achievement Award.

? ID Outstanding Achievement Award: Dr. Sreeni Tripuraneni, CEO, 4GIdentity Solution, India, for the design and deployment of large scale identity management solutions for the fast growing Indian market and achieving a leading role in biometric ID management for citizen ID solutions. This year's ID Outstanding Achievement Award was presented by Dr. Detlef Houdeau, Senior Director of Business Development at Infineon Technologies, who won the ID People Community Award in 2007.
