Zenius Solutions, Inc. was awarded the top innovation prize in the Disruptathon competition at CTIA Enterprise and Applications in San Diego yesterday. The firm was selected as the winner by vote from the audience of approximately 200 industry professionals, investors, and app developers. Each finalist firm was granted 5 minutes to explain its technology's concept, business model, disruptive potential and user experience. Jenny Rae Le Roux, VP of Business Development for Zenius, presented the Zenius NFC mobile, POS and server solution including payments, loyalty, and couponing. In addition to the $20,000 Grand Prize Package, Zenius was awarded "Most Disruptive," "Most Unique" and "Best Business Model" and was a Top 3 finisher in 5 of 6 categories.
Pete Erickson, Disruptathon founder, said, "We're psyched for Zenius. It was a great field of companies and a knowledgeable audience. An awesome day all around!"
Supporting mobile devices, standard and next generation (tablet and mobile) point-of-sale (POS) devices, as well as transactional backend systems, the Zenius NFC Software Suite enables all mobile payment stakeholders-carriers, banks, issuers, merchants, marketers, developers, and manufacturers-to integrate to a common platform, enabling seamless mobile application deployment and accelerated fee generation from NFC issuance, transaction and account management services. The monetization opportunity presented by the Zenius offering is vast; customers are expected to use their mobile phones to purchase $170B in goods and services by 2015 (Juniper Research, October 2011).
The innovative Zenius solution features the customizable Zenius Mobile Wallet, a re-brandable application that enables users to select and manage card applications; Zenius NFC Framework, an NFC hardware abstraction layer enabling easy application development; Zenius Open-loop MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover applets; and Zenius White-label card applications, a group of closed-loop applications including NFC loyalty and coupons that add new revenue streams for merchants and carriers. In addition, Zenius offers M-Transact, groundbreaking software that turns NFC-enabled smart phones into NFC acceptance point-of-sale (POS) and transaction devices; and Zenius Transaction Server, an advanced backend supporting the Zenius White-label applications.
"There were many excellent presentations today," commented Le Roux. "However, Zenius capitalized on consumer excitement for complete convergence of keys and cards on the mobile phone. I spoke for all of us that lug giant wallets around - the day of the universal mobile wallet cannot come too soon."
